I was recently invited by Softacare to help run a t-shirt design work shop as part of their innovative creative arts Xpress Program.

Softacare is dedicated to transforming the life of every child in foster care by unlocking their own creativity and connection to community. A very ‘Oobi’ approach.

A child who knows more about trauma than triumph is not easily able to trust. Softacare open doors for kids who rarely get to engage directly with stimulating creative experiences.

It made me think about how much pleasure our own children get from creative interaction and how lucky we all are to be able to give our children this opportunity so regularly.

It was inspiring to see raw talent blossoming and genuinely original ideas being created by this vulnerable yet brave group of children.

Seeing fear and mistrust slowly replaced by intrigue and happiness was an incredibly moving thing to witness.

Wendy and her passionate volunteer army of friends and facilitators nurtured and guided these amazing children throughout the day.

Here are a few of my favourite t-shirt designs. Which one is your favourite?

Oobi proudly sponsor Softacare and supply children’s clothing to foster kids and their carers.

If you also believe in the transformative power of creativity and would like to make a small donation these beautiful and talented children, their carers and Softacare would be extremely grateful.
