Recent events has prompted the need to wear masks - especially where physical distancing is difficult. In some places, wearing a mask has become mandatory.
Over the next year or two it is expected that masks will be our 'new normal', especially for crowds, travel, sporting events, and more.
There are different kinds of masks and one of the most popular kinds available today are cloth masks. If you choose to wear a cloth mask, keep in mind that there are several factors to consider.
1) Layers
Oobi's gorgeous 2020 Summer "Lovely Lemons" Print (above)
According to the World Health Organization, cloth masks need to have 3 layers in order to be effective: an absorbent inner layer, a middle layer to act as a filter, and a non-absorbent outer layer.
2) Filter
According to Australia's Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment, PM2.5 is particulate matter that is 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter and are very fine and light and can be carried into the air by wind. According to Puraka, masks with a PM2.5 filter can provide mechanical and electrostatic barriers, which means that according to Puraka, they are capable of blocking even the very smallest nanoparticles. According to Terry Cralle, homemade cloth masks have a filtration efficiency of around 69.4% compared to around 80% and 95% for surgical masks and N95 respirators respectively.
3) Fit
Wearing a mask with the proper fit ensures maximum coverage and adequate protection. Oobi masks come with a toggle as well as a metal bridge strip at the nose to keep it secure over the nose, mouth, and chin. We have also added a back strap with toggle adjuster (not seen in photo).
4) Age
Children below 2 years of age should not wear face coverings because of the risk of suffocation and choking. Oobi will NOT supply or create masks for babies or toddlers and our masks are for children who are OVER 3 years (up to adult).
5) Machine Washable
This is important for the environment and to save money too. Our Oobi masks will be so beautiful, you'll love to wear them every day!
6) 100% Cotton
For freshness, comfort and desirability, we have chosen to make our masks 100% cotton with a fresh, clean jersey lining.

Hi, are the filters disposable or washable?
Hi Minh, they are made in China by a SEDEX rated manufacturer and we have purchased the PM2.5 filters in Australia which we will include with every order. :)

Will there be a pre-order for masks in unisex/boy fabric? Hubby’s still not too keen on the lemon ones.
