A Colourful Day Out With Our Toddler (and a Few Things We Never Leave Home Without)
Before we became parents, people warned us that going anywhere with a baby would feel like moving house. They said café dates were over and relaxing park days would be replaced by snack spills and meltdown management.
But here’s the truth. Yes, it’s a bit more chaotic, and yes, we pack snacks like it’s a long-haul flight. But getting out of the house with our daughter is actually one of our favourite things.
Our days out aren’t picture-perfect, but they are full of laughs, fresh air, and a whole lot of banana. Here’s what a realistic day out with our toddler looks like, and the colourful little things we always bring along, like one of our portable baby highchairs, to make it easier, cuter, and more fun.
☕ Stop One: A Quick Café Visit (Emphasis on Quick)
We usually start with coffee. It’s non-negotiable. And we always bring our Sunkissed Portable Baby Chair with us.
We learned early on that cafés don’t always have high chairs. Or if they do, they might be dirty, broken, or covered in mystery crumbs that definitely don’t match the vibe of a freshly dressed toddler. Bringing our own means she stays secure, her outfit stays clean, and we’re not scrambling to hold her and eat with one hand (hurray for mum wins!)
She’s always dressed in something bright and joyful from Oobi. The kind of outfit that makes strangers smile and us feel like we’ve almost got it together. We love how Oobi’s playful colours and prints match our vibe. We’re all about fun, practical things that brighten your day.
Her latest favourite combo? A floral Oobi dress and our soft pink toddler sunnies. A match made in toddler-style heaven. And they actually stay on, which feels like a parenting miracle.
🌳 Next Stop: The Park
We keep our chair in the boot. It folds into its own little bag and weighs next to nothing, so it’s easy to bring along. After a good swing session and a few laps around the playground, we find a shady spot for lunch.
Cue: the same portable chair again, now strapped to a park bench, giving us at least 15 minutes of contained banana time. It’s honestly the only reason lunch doesn’t end up smeared down the slide.
🎒 What’s In Our Toddler Day Out Bag?
We’ve got our packing list down to a science (well, most days).
-
Oobi change of clothes. Always, always needed
-
Silicone spoon
-
Two wipes packets (we don’t mess around)
-
Portable Baby Chair. Lives in the car
-
Sunglasses. They double as an accessory and sun protection
-
Hat that she’ll take off immediately
-
One toy, six snacks, and many hopes for the best
☀️ Why We Love Days Like This
There’s something special about watching your little one explore the world. Even if it means chasing her around with crusts in your hand. Being prepared with a few things that work for us, like gear that’s easy to carry and clothes that can handle a bit of mess, makes the whole experience feel lighter.
We love that Oobi and Sunkissed share a similar spirit. Joyful, vibrant, and designed with real family life in mind. Whether it’s a sunny romper that can handle grass stains or a chair that makes picnics more peaceful, we’re all about finding joy in the little moments.
🧡 Final Thought
Getting out with a toddler isn’t about making it perfect. It’s about making it possible, and even fun. A comfy seat, a colourful outfit, a good snack stash, and some sunshine. That’s our recipe for a good day.
And yes, the banana still ends up on her somewhere. But at least it’s not on the slide this time.
